Christmas time

. . . Mistletoe and wine. Both were featured in the Pickard House Christmas Dinner that I have just returned to my room from. The wonderful folks from Boiler Room, headed up by Dave Slinn, cooked up a rare treat for 21 of us on Levels 1 and 2. There was no Bible-bashing, just a simple grace, and hanging out*. It was truly wonderful. I know for a fact that some good chats were had between the Boiler Room guys and my flatmates, and our voluntary caterers were praised with a hearty round of applause before leaving us to get on with the important event that is . . .

Secret Santa The backstory here is amusing for me, as I missed the names being drawn, so the name of my Santee (if that's the correct terminology) was slipped under my door on a piece of paper. Which I never found. I only discovered I was part of the arrangements on Saturday, and I had no idea who to buy for. In the end I bought a unisex gift from Tesco and all was well! In return, my Santa bought me Iron Man on DVD, which is a film I've wanted to see for well over a year. I am about to end that wait (once I have finished this blog)

The old treadmill This will not be as relaxing a Christmas as last year's, I fear, despite a trip to Madrid to see Tori for the first time in FOUR MONTHS! It's only Tuesday and already I have had 4 pieces of coursework set for the Christmas break. But hey, only 2 exams in January, so that kind of makes up for it.

A short appeal/diversion from me talking about my life I've been banging on about this a little on Twitter and I think I've mentioned it on my other blog too, but my friend Tim has released an EP for download (at this address: http://s177273346.websitehome.co.uk/scatcat/christmas2/). The payment is a Radiohead-style pay-as-much-as-you-like, only none of the money is going to him; instead it is going to a charity who help to homeless and hungry of Southampton in various ways. I'm not going to lie and tell you it's the single greatest Christmas album ever (I don't think it's even Tim's best release), but I urge you to donate a little to what I think is a worthy cause.

There is little more for me to say, except "Hurrah! The holidays are days away!" - I personally will be going to Madrid for New Year and LOVING it! What will you be doing?

Christmas blessings to you all, much love

J.R.

*There will be a short rundown of why I think this was super-awesome on my other blog in due course.
