Midweek

Illustrations I hope by now that if you're into this blog in any way, you'll also have seen some of the photos on Facey B. Amongst them are Dick and Dom's Dunk Tank (which only involved Dom, as Dick was allegedly ill - this led to many many inappropriate jokes) and Chase & Status on Monday night.

Being told what to do The only lectures this week (what with it being 'Welcome Week') have been introductions to university life, the Performing Arts faculty, the Music and Sound Recording department, and the Tonmeister Course itself. Some of the lectures have been a little dull, but not so much that I regret going, and the majority have been helpful to the max. I've also got my timetable, and it's really rather good. Just have to make some module option decisions soon.

The Works The building site directly outside my window is a source of great frustration for all of our flat. We've heard that the next block have been given a £4-per-week discount, yet the invoices we received yesterday don't give us the privilege, despite being considerably closer to the building site. George sent them an email last night, so we're awaiting a response to that.

Free Lunches The CU hosted a free lunch yesterday, which was really nice. I met a few new people and re-met a fellow Tonnie named Tim (I think). There's another free lunch tomorrow, and I've procured a ticket valid for free burgers every Sunday in October at St Saviours. Mint.

Spoons Last night we opted for an earlier evening, and went to Wetherspoon's in Guildford. Thanks to some vouchers that got strewn around the flat on Sunday, I got steak, chips, a salad and pint for a mere £5. I also met an American guy called Sam and a girl from Eastleigh who went to Barton Peveril, both of whom live in the next building - small world. I would've made my second trip into Guildford today had it not been raining, but I have made the next step towards my bank account working so that's good.

The first 24 hours (or thereabouts)

Prologue This is my second attempt at this entry, as my computer crashed halfway through the previous attempt. I think it's something to do with my monitor, because it's only ever happened when I have that plugged in. AppleCare will be receiving a call at some point.

To Business I arrived safe and sound at about lunchtime yesterday, thanks to Clive and Kim, and apart from briefly saying hello to some flatmates, I spent most of the next five or six hours in my room unpacking and sorting out my computer etc. The good news is that all my boxes are flat underneath my bed, and my room is looking very homely. Come visit, one and all!

Come the Eve We all (well, about eight of the eleven who had arrived of the fourteen) met up in the kitchen for meet-and-greet and drinks. The kitchen is really big, which is great for social purposes, although considering 14 people are supposed to cook in it, maybe it's not that big. I think we've all bonded fairly quickly and I'm happy to say that there isn't anyone I've taken a disliking to (which is a prayer answered). All of us appear to have taken gap years (bar those from overseas) and there are five of us from the Performing Arts faculty - three Tonmeisters (myself included) and two girls doing Theatre Studies.

The Influx A group of other folks from the floor above came down to introduce themselves at about 10, and as far as I could hear from my room didn't leave until gone 3 (which is one of the rules we were given prior to arrival down the drain already). On the whole, however, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Epilogue I will try my best to make these entries shorter; this one is far too long. I'm just excited, it's verbal diarrhoea if anything.

Welcome Aboard

Greetings, one and all, and a big thank you for taking the time to read my blog.

Those of you who read my previous blogs (Julez's Unexpected Gap Year and its little sister Julez Goes for a Walk) will notice that the current generation of my blogs have had a little bit of a makeover.

Note that I say blogs plural: that's right, I actually have two blogs now! The one that you are currently reading will tell of the ins and outs of my university life. My second blog (thematically entitled In which I write of things that interest or concern me) is something I wished for during my gap year if I wanted to voice something unrelated from my Gap Year. As such, this will contain snippets of things that I find interesting; be they reiterated news stories, links to others' blogs or my own music or film reviews, I will try my best to keep them short, sharp and witty.

In other words, this will be a blog of what I'm upto, the other will be one of what I'm into. If that makes sense.

More topically now, I depart for university in a little over a fortnight, and I am relishing the prospect with great aplomb! Room-clearing, -sorting, and -packing is going smoothly if untidily. Tori helped me clear out a load of old clothing before embarking upon her year in Spain, and many other items are being sifted through. I recommend following her blog, it'll be interesting!

I have an address for uni now, so ask me for it if you wish to send me gifts or snail-mail (it'd be lovely if you did!), and I will be on Skype and Facebook as usual, as well as posting on here and Tweeting to my heart's content. If you intend on reading this blog, please subscribe to it with RSS or Blogger or whatever, as I don't really want to be cluttering Facebook up with it (people get annoyed with me)

I will post again when I have moved to the next county, and met my new flatmates for real!
